History

The history of Rincón de Romos dates back to the 17th century, when haciendas and ranches began to be established in the northern region of what is now the state of Aguascalientes. Thanks to the fertility of its lands and its location along important trade routes of New Spain, the area became a strategic point for agriculture, livestock raising, and commerce between central and northern Mexico.

The municipality takes its name from the Romo de Vivar family, one of the most influential families in the region during the colonial period. Over the years, the town grew around its agricultural and religious activities, becoming one of the most important settlements in northern Aguascalientes. Its development was closely linked to the haciendas that drove the regional economy during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Rincón de Romos holds a special place in national history as the birthplace of Francisco I. Madero, leader of the Mexican Revolution and President of Mexico from 1911 to 1913. Today, the municipality preserves important historical monuments, religious traditions, and a valuable cultural heritage that reflect its role in shaping the identity of Aguascalientes and Mexico. Its churches, plazas, and communities keep alive the history of a land proud of its roots and revolutionary legacy.
