Overview

Pabellón de Hidalgo is a historic community located in the municipality of Rincón de Romos, recognized for its great importance in Mexican history. This place stands out for having been the setting of events related to the War of Independence, especially because of the stay of Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla after the insurgent defeat at the Battle of Calderón Bridge.

The town preserves a peaceful and traditional atmosphere, surrounded by semi-desert landscapes and agricultural areas characteristic of the state of Aguascalientes. One of its main attractions is the Museum of the Insurgency, housed in a former hacienda that preserves objects, documents, and historical accounts from that period.

In addition to its historical value, Pabellón de Hidalgo offers cultural spaces, colonial architecture, and local traditions that reflect the identity of its residents. It is an ideal destination for those who wish to learn more about the historical and cultural past of the region.

History

The history of Pabellón de Hidalgo is deeply connected to Mexico’s War of Independence. During the colonial period, the community developed around San Blas Hacienda, an important agricultural and livestock estate in the region. However, the site gained historical significance in 1811, when insurgent leader Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla arrived after the defeat of the independence army at the Battle of Calderón Bridge.

One of the most significant moments of the insurgent struggle took place at this hacienda: Hidalgo was stripped of his military command by other leaders of the movement, including Ignacio Allende. This event marked a decisive stage in the history of Mexico’s independence movement.

Over the years, the former hacienda was preserved as a historic heritage site and today houses the Museum of the Insurgency, where objects and documents related to that period are preserved. Today, Pabellón de Hidalgo is recognized as an emblematic site of Mexico’s historical memory and of the state of Aguascalientes.
