Pabellón de Arteaga is a municipality located in the northern part of the state of Aguascalientes, known for its strong agricultural vocation, rich history, and for hosting one of the state’s most representative celebrations: the Regional Revolution Fair. Its name honors the distinguished Mexican politician José María Arteaga, a hero of the Reform War and defender of the Republic.
Recognized as one of the state’s leading agricultural producers, Pabellón de Arteaga stands out for its fertile lands and for the work of generations of farmers who have contributed to the region’s economic development. Its extensive crop fields form part of the municipality’s characteristic landscape and reflect the importance of the agricultural sector in the daily lives of its residents.
In addition to its agricultural activity, the municipality offers cultural, gastronomic, and recreational attractions that allow visitors to discover the essence of traditional Aguascalientes. Its main square, churches, festivities, and the hospitality of its people make Pabellón de Arteaga an ideal destination for discovering the history, traditions, and hardworking spirit that distinguish this important community in Aguascalientes.
The history of Pabellón de Arteaga is closely linked to railway development and the construction of the Plutarco Elías Calles Dam, one of the most important hydraulic projects in the state during the 20th century. The origins of the town date back to 1929, when a workers’ settlement was established for those involved in the construction of the dam and in irrigation projects that would transform agriculture in the region.
Over the years, that settlement, known as Colonia Progreso, began to grow thanks to agricultural, livestock, and railway activities. Its strategic location encouraged the development of trade and the arrival of new families, quickly turning it into one of the fastest-growing communities in northern Aguascalientes. The old railway station played a fundamental role in communication and in the transportation of agricultural products from the region.
Due to its continued development, on May 6, 1964, the town was granted its own political status, and later, on May 14, 1965, the municipality of Pabellón de Arteaga was formally established, separating from Rincón de Romos. Its name honors General José María Arteaga, a distinguished defender of the Republic during the 19th century.
