The Ojocaliente thermal waters are part of the historical identity of Aguascalientes and are closely linked to the city’s very name. Originating from natural hot springs located east of the capital, they have been prized for centuries for their temperature and used for bathing, relaxation, and various daily activities.
These waters are distinguished by their naturally high temperature and mineral content. Over time, the Ojocaliente springs gave rise to facilities designed to utilize the water—most notably the traditional Ojocaliente Baths. These baths stand as one of the city’s most iconic historical sites and a testament to an era when visiting the baths was also a social activity.
Getting to know Ojocaliente allows you to discover a different side of Aguascalientes: one linked to water, its ancient springs, and the customs that accompanied the city’s development—a heritage that preserves memory, architecture, and tradition.
The history of Ojocaliente dates back to the early years of Aguascalientes. The hot springs located east of the settlement were of great importance to its inhabitants and helped define the area by the abundance of thermal waters. Since the colonial era, these waters have been utilized to meet various needs of the population, including irrigation and bathing.
