History

La Salud Neighborhood is one of the oldest and most traditional neighborhoods in the city of Aguascalientes. Its origins date back to the 18th century, when epidemics and illnesses affecting the population led to the creation of a new cemetery south of the town. Next to the old cemetery, a small chapel dedicated to the Lord of Health was built, becoming the spiritual center of the community.

Over time, families of gravediggers, farmers, and orchard workers began settling in the area, shaping a neighborhood characterized by irregular streets, traditional homes, and a strong sense of community. During the 19th century, religious devotion encouraged the construction of the present-day temple, which became one of the most representative historic symbols of the area.

Today, La Salud Neighborhood preserves much of its historic character through its old houses, gardens, and popular traditions. In addition to its cultural importance, it is recognized as one of the founding neighborhoods of Aguascalientes and as a place that reflects the city’s identity, architecture, and historical memory.
