Historia

The history of the Aguascalientes Municipal Palace is closely linked to the city’s political and urban development. Its construction dates back to the 18th century, when Aguascalientes was a small colonial town beginning to consolidate its administrative importance within the Viceroyalty of New Spain. The building was erected in the heart of the city, facing the present-day Plaza de la Patria, to house local government functions.

Over time, the palace has undergone various modifications and restorations to meet the municipality’s needs. Its architecture retains colonial elements—such as pink stone arches and interior courtyards—while also incorporating changes made in later centuries. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the building witnessed significant political events, including the organization of local government following Mexico’s independence.

Hoy en día, el Palacio Municipal es un símbolo del poder civil y de la identidad histórica de Aguascalientes. Además de su función administrativa, es un punto de interés cultural y turístico en el centro histórico de la ciudad.
