History
The history of the Museo de Aguascalientes dates back to the late 19th century, when the building that currently houses it was constructed as a Neoclassical-style residence, designed by architect Refugio Reyes Rivas—one of the region’s most important architects. Its elegant architecture and quarry-stone façade have made it a landmark in the city’s historic center ever since.
Over time, the building ceased to function as a private residence and was adapted for cultural use. It was officially established as a museum in the 1970s, with the aim of preserving and promoting the art and culture of Aguascalientes. Since then, it has served as a key venue for art exhibitions and educational activities.
