History

The history of the Museo de Aguascalientes dates back to the late 19th century, when the building that currently houses it was constructed as a Neoclassical-style residence, designed by architect Refugio Reyes Rivas—one of the region’s most important architects. Its elegant architecture and quarry-stone façade have made it a landmark in the city’s historic center ever since.

Over time, the building ceased to function as a private residence and was adapted for cultural use. It was officially established as a museum in the 1970s, with the aim of preserving and promoting the art and culture of Aguascalientes. Since then, it has served as a key venue for art exhibitions and educational activities.

Today, the Aguascalientes Museum is one of the state’s most important cultural venues. Its history, architecture, and art collection make it an essential site for understanding the region’s cultural and artistic evolution.
